For Harry Whitaker

This show is in memory of Harry Whitaker who passed away last Wednesday. He was a great composer and arranger as well as a jazz pianist. Featured here is a rare and creative composition called Black Renaissance as well as a couple of tracks in a trio setting. According to what I have read, Harry died poor and without health insurance and never received the care he should have gotten in the last years of his life. This show is also dedicated to our friend Andres Chaparro who introduced me to Mr. Whitaker and has brought so many great artists to Hartford. One of those is Sharel Cassity, a young talented alto sax player who is also heard on this podcast.

I am a full time working keyboardist from NY,who has(d) known “Harry” over 30yrs……I am(was) his sons(Marc)’ best friend ,and HS classmate (Music and Art 82 “) What makes this note difficult is the fact they both passed away just weeks apart from each other…..I love and miss them both……god bless them…… :-( ……

I’m a friend of Etienne and Marc, and we are all dealing with the shock of having lost a high school friend, then to find out that his father passed away only a few weeks earlier. Etienne thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Harry was a great musician and one of the nicest persons I’ve ever encountered. We performed on a QPTV show with the late Teri Thornton and drummer /producer Bernice Brooks in the 90s Ive known him since the early 80s

Its very sad that a father and son died only 1 week apart. I will always have fond memories of Marc, though I had never met his dad, Marc spoke of him so much I feel as though I did. Great musicians great loss. My memories of high school will never be the same with Marc gone. Love you Marc and still missing you.
