After a week dominated by racial injustice, protest and violence this broadcast takes on a contemplative tone. Tyner's Search for Peace seemed an appropriate way to lead off the show. A Jimmy Greene set is also featured here to review his recent performance at Wesleyan U this week. Other artists represented are Shirley Horn, Cecile Salvant, Buster Williams, Alan Ferber and Hiromi.

This playlist is mostly a review of NYC jazz artists that I heard live on a recent trip to the big apple. We saw six bands, and they are represented here. Monday nights have NYC regulars Mingus Big Band at the Jazz Standard, and Mike Stern at 55Bar. Stanley Cowell was at the venerable Village Vanguard. David Binney and Sheryl Bailey made it three stops at 55Bar which features up and coming jazz players. The last stop was uptown at Smoke Jazz & Supper Club where pianist Victor Gould was celebrating the release of his new CD with his sextet. This CD also features new albums by Kenny Garrett and Hiromi.

Our Miles Davis 90th Birthday tribute show. You will hear Miles' first and second great quintets along with an early recording with Charlie Parker and a sideman date with Cannonball. Then his transition to electronics beginning with explorations with his quintet, to full throttle jazz/rock fusion. We finish with fusion masters John McLaughlin and Weather Report. Over 2 hours of great music covering the many sides of Miles.
