Another episode paying tribute to a Jazz Master that has passed on. Pharoah Sanders, 81, was perhaps the voice on saxophone that most reflected the spirit of John Coltrane. We begin the show with his musical legacy. That is followed by the great husband and wife team of Mike Wofford (piano) and Holly Hofmann (flute), along with bassist Rob Thorsen representing the jazz scene in San Diego. The podcast ends with a collaboration between organist Joey DeFrancesco and The Pharoah.

The first half of this podcast showcases jazz artists' creating music in a post-covid world. In some cases this music was made at home while quarantined away from studios or clubs. The second part is a throwback to another creative era in jazz, the hard-bop of the 1960's.

Two of my favorite standards are covered here. Dig vocal and instrumental covers of Trane's Moment Notice, then Miles' So What. Following that is a jazz voyage with Hancock and Pharoah. Then we pay tribute to the victims and families of the Parkland shootings with music from Rob Garcia, Noah Baerman and Noah Preminger. The podcast concludes with Ellington's Jeep Blues.

This is a special podcast of Eastern or Indian influenced jazz music. We will hear from Alice Coltrane, John McLaughlin, Charles Lloyd and more. This influence even affected the Beatles, particularly George Harrison. The last portion of this podcast shows a funky side of Indo-Jazz fusion with many influences.

No, not the Sanders making a big impact in US politics! Pharoah Sanders, who has made an impact by channeling the spirit of John Coltrane with his tenor saxophone. You will hear many sides of this great tenor and soprano sax player. His powerful sound is represented in the tracks here.
