Remembering Chick

This show celebrates two recent birthdays. Chick Corea born June 12, 1941 and Kenny Barron on June 9, 1943. Chick is so missed, and we are fortunate to have Kenny Barron still recording and performing. Other greats represented here are Jackie McLean and Herbie Hancock. Flora Purim surprises us with a new recording at age 80 after a fifteen year absence. Hartford bassist Matt Dwonszyk has released a single from his soon to be released second album.

Guitar Progression

We begin this edition with a set demonstrating the progression of modern jazz guitar from the 60's groove style of Kenny Burrell and Peter Bernstein to a more fusion approach from Gilad Hekselman and Andrew Renfroe. We conclude this episode with a variety jazz styles. A popular tune from a movie soundtrack by husband-wife team Mike Wofford an Holly Hofmann, Indian influenced Dave Holland, Zakir Hussain & Chris Potter, and a cooking track from Jackie McLean's collaboration with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson.
