Monday July 20th marks the 40th anniversary of Appollo 14 walk on the moon. A pretty amazing feat for 1969. This has little or nothing to do with this weeks jazz program, but I couldn't think of a theme or a name for the show. Actually one tracks on this show is titled "Lunar", from one of our favorite alto sax players, Mike DiRubbo, so we might as well use his fine newly released CD as our featured album of the week.

Most of this show features our friend Andres Chaparro from Beatnik Entertainment and his Jazz on the River series. Beginning this Wednesday, July 15 with the Winard Harper Quartet and for six consecutive Wednesday evenings there will be some great performances at a new venue for Jazz. These shows will be hosted at Albert's Riverside on 1530 Palisado Ave., Windsor, CT. For more information see Andres' website at www.beatnik-entertainment.com. Come out to Albert's Riverside for some killer jazz music, and good food. Support jazz in Hartford.

This podcast is the second hour of my radio show from last week, but it is a good one. We start out with the one and only Trane from a fine album, Coltrane's Sound. We then take it beyond with George Schuller and Ed Palermo. Following that is a set featuring some great Monk composition's as interpreted by others, than Monk and Trane. We settle things down nicely with some Evan's like piano trio music by a great artist, Robert Glasper.
