Jazz night NYC
Sunday Jun 26, 2011
Sunday Jun 26, 2011
This show recaps our Friday night hitting the NYC jazz clubs. We saw Donald Harrison's Treme show, Joel Holmes Trio and The John Fedchock NY Sextet (featuring Walt Weiskopf). It was a great night and doing this show lets me share some of that music with you. Please note that apparently I was looking at the wrong liner notes when I gave the personnel for the Donald Harrison tracks. See below for the impressive lineup on those tracks.

Father's Day 2011
Sunday Jun 19, 2011
Sunday Jun 19, 2011
Its sort of a tradition on Father's Day to begin the show with Horace Silver's classic Song For My Father. Cannonball's cool One For Daddy-O continues on that theme. Next up is a Curtis Brothers set to get us ready for their live gig that evening. Later in the show we have a set as requested by my lovely wife Claire featuring Ornette Coleman's unique take on the blues, Dave Douglas and Stan Getz with Chick Corea. The show concludes with a rousing performance of Sweet Georgia Brown by clarinetist Anat Cohen.

Reprise - Tenor Sax
Sunday Jun 12, 2011
Sunday Jun 12, 2011
This podcast is a reprise of a podcast from May 16 2010, due to a preemption of my radio show this week. Tenor saxophone is front and center on this show. We'll hear some jazz artists from today's generation of tenor players along with some grand masters of the past. Representing players on the scene today are Marcus Strickland, Jimmy Greene and Abraham Burton. Of course there are so many great players out there, that it would be impossible to hear them all on one broadcast. From the past, two of the greatest are represented here with Ben Webster and Lester Young.

Out To Lunch
Sunday Jun 05, 2011
Sunday Jun 05, 2011
Quite an eclectic show. It all starts off with some swinging Joshua Redman, early in his career (1995). It continues with some New Orleans sounds from Skerik and John Ellis. Then we begin our ascent into the avant garde with Greg Osby and then full out (out to lunch) with Eric Dolphy. We then come back down to earth with some gorgeous piano work from Yoko Miwa to conclude this show.
