From the Hart, meaning - From Hartford. The music in this podcast is inspired by a couple of the live performances that took place this week in the Hartford area. Jean Caze (trumpet), and Albert Rivera (tenor sax) both from New York and previously performed in our area returned, backed by local favorites Zachai and Luques Curtis (Insight) put on a wonderful show. Joel Frahm was in West Hartford for a master class for the benefit of a middle school jazz band and followed that up with a performance with a quartet of local musicians. Besides the local representation, we don't forget to play the masters in this podcast, and have two of the greatest of all time, Rollins and Trane. Indian-jazz Fusion is one of my favorite styles of this music. And while classical indian rhythms and scales have influenced jazz musicians for decades, this particular sound I credit to John McLaughlin's Shakti project. Here we have several examples of Indian Fusion as represented by artists like Mynta, Fareed Haque, Prassana and others.
